Okay, so I was going through pictures on our computer tonight and I came across some of these of Caisen. I went through some emails and started tearing up remembering this day. It's been almost 6 months since this accident and I guess another blessing of losing time is that we all get to heal...physically, spiritually, emotionally. Oh how I love our Lord for his tender mercies upon each and every one of us. It's like he hand picks and personally issues us his tender mercies daily. He know just what to bless us with each and every minute of our lives. What a blessing it is! Also, words cannot express our love and appreciation and gratitude for our families and friends for all the prayers and fasting that went up in behalf of our little Caisen. We know that when troubles come our way we can call on Angels (Dani girl) to bless us and comfort us, thanks to a loving Savior. How grateful I am to still have my Caisen in his perfect, healthy active little body. It sucks going through these kinds of mortal accidents but coming out of them is such a reward! I love my Heavenly Father, Savior, the comfort of the Holy Ghost and my family.
Caisen,
I love you more than words can express! I never want to lose you. Thank you for loving your far from perfect mother. Thank you for being such a trooper throughout all of this. It will soon be over.
I love you,
momma
Here is a series of email that were sent after Caisen's accident on July 4th. I was 3 weeks away from having Anela, and up until this point did I pray that she would come early(I had a really hard pregnancy). Well thanks to an obedient little girl, she waited because she knew that Caisen needed his mommy and daddy for a few more weeks. How blessed are we? She came on her EXACT due date 3 weeks later. Caisen was also born on his exact due date too. Funny huh? And they were both natural...meaning they actually got to choose their birth dates. Special.
The day before the accident.
Dear Family, We had a family campout this weekend in North Ga. As we were beginning to pack up (around lunchtime), baby Caisen was walking by the fire pit taking pretzels to Daddy when he fell onto the rocks surrounding the firepit. He received very serious burns to his leg and the top of his foot. Stephen and Matt immediately gave him a blessing after we poured a cooler of cold water on his leg to help deaden the pain. It had instantly blistered up and looked ugly. Stephen and Pomai took him to the hospital about 20 min. from camp. After examining him, the hospital got a helicopter and flighted him to the burn center in Augusta. They wouldn't let Pomai fly with him because she is too far along to fly, and they wouldn't let Stephen go either. They had to drive to Augusta (a 3 1/2 hour drive). I just spoke with them a few minutes ago when she called to ask if I would send out a family email to have everyone fast for Caisen tomorrow.
We know the power of fasting and prayer in our family from our experiences with Vanessa. We know Caisen will be alright, but it would be such a blessing if he didn't have to have skin grafts and if his pain could be eased. Pomai did say that the flight nurse had just called them and said they had landed and Caisen was calm and waved goodbye to her when she handed him over to the nurse who would be taking care of him.
So if you could fast for that little man and his parents they/we would be grateful.
Love to you all, and I will fill you in as she lets us know what is going on.
Love and REMEMBER
Mom, FMIL, Nancy
To All,
First off we want to thank you all for your prayers and support!
So to start off where Mom left off. We got to the hospital in record time, thanks to a resilient little four banger accord. When we got here we went straight to the pediatric wing and there he was being the flirtatious little guy that we all know and love. He was at the nursing station with all the nurses on the shift playing and ooing and aahing over him and he was just snuggled up on them, they didn't want to put him in a room if they could play with him. They showed us to a room and at that time it was a shift change so it took about 20 mins for us to get word on what the deal was.
One on the nurses who was rolling off her shift came in and spoke with us for about 15 mins. So he has seen the pediatric team, but has yet to see the burn unit team. A nurse should be here to see him some time tonight to assess the situation for tomorrow. The pediatrician ordered blood work done on him since they didn't do any on him in Jasper, they tried, but after jabbing all his extrmeties a couple time each they gave up. So here they finally were able to get some on the fourth attempt! Our little guy has been a pin cushion all afternoon :-(
The nurse said they would perform a minor surgery to clean all the burns well and use either a cadaver graft or some pig skin to help the wounds scab over. If they are deeper than anticipated then they will have to do some actual skin grafts on him and he will have a hand full of follow-up visits. If things go really well we might be able to get out of here tomorrow, but it's sounding like it will be more like Monday before we get on the road.
He is not on any pain killers and he is just a little trooper. He is running around and jumping and being his lively self. So he is in good spirits.
He burned his right leg very badly! His wrapping fell of while he was playing a little while ago and we got to see it for the first time since Jasper and it's UGLY!! Skin has already peeled off and most of the side of his leg is blistered up really bad with some on the top of his foot and some on his little hand.
He will be OK, we are fasting and praying that all the procedures go well and he comes out without any lasting effects.
I am attaching a play picture and a picture of his leg from just now when the wrapping fell off. For those faint of heart I would suggest that you avert your eyes!
Thank you again for your thoughts and prayers and we ask that you keeps us in the throughout the course of these coming days.
Love,
Anela, Caisen, Pomai, and Stephen
This was all typed from a phone so forgive the mess if it's bad.
At the hospital.
Caisen just got out of surgery and dr said it went well. He said there were 2nd degree and deep second degree burns on his little hands and leg. They put pig skin on it and its wrapped in a medicinal wrap to help relieve pain and heal. He said that they should not need to do any grafts on him and that it all should heal within two weeks or so.
He got a good night's sleep so all that has added up to a good morning for him. Dr said we should be able to get home today. He is in recovery now and we should be able to see him shortly. We will keep everyone posted as we get updates.
Our little family would like to Thank ALL of you for your prayers and fasting on behalf of our little guy. We know Heavenly Father's blessings have been sent our way!! Thank you all!!
With much love and appreciation,
Anela, Caisen, Pomai, and Stephen
(I will post pre-surgery pics)
First week home
1 week post surgery
2 weeks post surgery
2 weeks post...right after they took off the skin graft.
Getting custom fitted for his compression garment that he has to wear everyday for a year. This will help his skin heal nice and tight like his other leg.
About 3 and a half months post.
Not a very good picture but here you can see what we call his "cool sock" aka custom fitted compression garment. We go in about every 6 weeks to get re-measured because he's growing so much and if his garment gets too tight it gives him these ugly blister that take forever to go away. And then we have to go back 2 weeks later after it's made to be sure it fits.
